Open Question: I will do my engineering from IIT but then I want to pursue physics as career?

I will do my B.Tech + M.Tech from an Indian Institute of Technology, most probably in Computer Science, after which I want to pursue physics as a career, in a good US university such as MIT. I just wanted to ask whether letters of recommendation are issued by IIT professors for basic sciences too? What if I haven’t done any research in physics as such? Will getting into MIT physics be really difficult for me(considering that I have beaten the cut-throat competition in IIT-JEE this year with a rank better than 400 and have scored around 130 marks in physics out of 160 in JEE, which is very difficult for even the best undergraduate students of the United States) and what preparations would have to be made if I have to gain admission in a good university such as MIT and pursue theoretical physics as a career?
